SIEGEL & MEINUNGER FOR
SWITZERLAND News from SF1, courtesy Ms. Anita Raaflaub The Swiss entry, Vanilla Ninja, achieved an outstanding 8th place at this year's Eurovision Song Contest. Switzerland therefore qualifies directly for the 2006 final, which will be held in Athens on 20 May. The goal in Athens is once again to take one of the top spots and qualify directly for the final in 2007. With this objective in mind, a national jury has evaluated the proposals for Switzerland's 2006 entry and chosen the strongest and most promising song. The melody has been composed by Ralph Siegel, the words by Bernd Meinunger. Composers from seven countries (Spain, the UK, France, Malta, Germany, Canada and Switzerland) had submitted their songs to SF DRS, TSR and TSI by the deadline for entries. A national jury then met to select a potential hit from all of the submitted songs. It is hoped that the chosen song will achieve a top-ten place in Athens on 20 May 2006, thereby qualifying Switzerland directly for the 2007 final. The next step is to identify a performer with a strong voice, extensive live performance experience and a great stage presence. As soon as the final choice has been made, Switzerland's entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 will be presented to the public. Toni Wachter, Head of the Swiss delegation, remarked: «It goes without saying that we will also be considering strong Swiss voices among the possible performers.» |
