EUROVISION 2014 - COPENHAGEN - DENMARK

SECHUK JURY 2014 - THE JURY REVIEW FOR ALBANIA

2 Juries - one UK and one International, will comment on and rate the songs of ESC 2014 as they are chosen.

The idea is that the songs will be voted on first impresssions, as most TV viewers will do in May.

The main difference of course is that in May they will be subject to the same production standards and opportunties,

something that differs at National Selection stage.

This song is in a way hard to follow. It's dramatic then peaceful and then bland. The artist definitely has a nice voice that compliments the song; I just hope that the final version is a little more put together.

A quite interesting song, but you grow tired of it after a while (or at least I do) Which makes the song a little worse.

This song is all over the place its a mixture of everything. Doesnt work for me at all but it may stand out a little bit and it could be a borderline qualifier. If it does qualify it will be bottom 5. For me the song is weak the singer is average so my total score is 4

This is a difficult song to sing filled with highs, lows and dramatic twists but Hersi performs it beautifully. It takes a couple of listens to fully appreciate all of the nuances ... James Bond-esque intro and echoes of Seal's 'Kiss from a Rose'. The intense and compelling climax that showcases her fantastic voice should be retained in the shortened version for the ESC . Not sure an English version is needed. It certainly did Rona no harm.

A really boring song for me, I couldnt even hear it till the end. The voice of the singer is good but it gets really iritating in large quantities

I don't see this song in the final. Hersiana is a great singer, but that's it. However this is an advance considering Albania sent the ugliest entry in 2013 and that they know how to change a song after Kenges like they did in 2010 and 2011.

An odd little number, this one. Towards the end it becomes strangely hypnotic, but I have absolutely no idea what the guitar bit in the middle is all about. Not a winner.

This is a decent effort from Albania - It conjures up elements of mystery and drama which are somewhat reminiscent of Ukraine 's entry last year (well, before the rework and the stomping giant). So long as they keep it in Albanian and ditch the ill-fitting intro, this could see Herciana into the Saturday night final.

She’s got a nice voice and the song suits her quite nicely. It’s a pleasant number for sure and could do quite well, I imagine.  Weird intro that doesn't fit with the song, but I really like this on a first listen. Lovely language and good tune. Hope they sing in Albanian. Maybe English will suit this song better.

I like this entry. It has a very good intro, nice ethnic sounds and Hersiana has a good voice. So a very original entry for Albania once again.

Hm hmmm. not so bad. Not a winner but a place in the final I think. Very good singer with a strong voice.

Before writing this comment, I had to listen to it so many times. A refined song, perhaps not so effective and potentially hazy. It's the classical "love me or hate me" song. Personally, I liked the runner-up more. Must we wait for changes in the next months ?

As is typical for Albania , the song sort of sounds nice at first but I  am not  sure if I will  like  it more as the weeks and months go on. I will also have to practice hard to pronounce the name of the song.

At first, I was a bit confused with how the opening bars of the song blended with the rest of it, but I quickly got over it.  Let's face it, this is Albania , and we're likely to have a revamp at some point. Hersi's voice pairs beautifully with this lush, emotional waltz...I just wish I knew what she was singing about.  Well-sung, well-arranged...but will ESC -viewers take to it?

Can't quite say what it is that makes me like this so much but it certainly has something which grabbed me from first hearing. Maybe the ethnic feel, maybe the brass or the way it builds to the final chorus but I just hope they can carry it off in Copenhagen .

The best Albanian entry for a while. I really like the whole feel of this song. Obviously the start music will have to go. I would like to see this sung in Albanian at the contest as I find it an easy language on the ear.

This has one of the weirdest intros to a song EVER. It doesn’t quite fit with the rest of the song, which is a nice ballad sung in a minor key which does however make it seem ever so slightly jarring. Hersiana is a good singer though and I think with a bit of polish this could turn out to be a good entry, but they really do need to get rid of that pointless introduction.

As always there will be a makeover. Difficult at the moment with all the crashing and banging to hear the song fighting to get out but there is something different and interesting in there. Hopefully they will bring to the forth its strengths and should see Albania in the final.

Hmm! One of those 'split personality' entries. The intro seems to have little to do with the rest of the song which, in parts, reminds me of the dreadful entry from Michelle ( NET 2001). A pleasant, ambling three minutes but sadly the tune evaporates as soon as you hear it. Finalist? Probably.

Oh Dear!!!  I think this is far too complex and “bitty” as it currently stands. I couldn’t see anyone else in Europe voting for this.  It needs a MASSIVE overhaul to stand any chance of qualifying.

Really hard to judge this. I think it will be polished up and will sound great. But it's overly complex and where's the chorus?

4

Eddie

Only minor point is that intro doesn't really fit in with the rest of the song. Voice is lovely and clear. Nice melody and simple presentation. I really like this - very anthemic without being over the top. Plus love the live orchestra sound.

What is that intro about?! This feels like its telling a story that we can’t understand. No doubt this will be updated before May, but as it stands, it seems to ramble without a clear direction or a discernable hook and I’m just not getting it. Lovely voice though.

Loved the into - was half-expecting Nancy and co from 'Oliver' to leap into view as it was very "oomph-pa-pa".  Very good singer although it doesn't really go anywhere...until the end. With work could be good.  Killer lips though!

I enjoyed this for on first hearing. A really pleasant gentle melody that reminds me of something I can't put my finger on. The story telling sound of it makes me think that it will work even better in English. It's even better on second hearing.

This reminds me of something from the 1990s. It's unusual and I do like it, she's strong vocally. Albania have proved that it's not only possible to polish a turd but to also roll them in glitter! I expect the final version will be very different to this. The juries will love it, but will the public?

One Night's Anger guaranteed after listening to this typical Eastern European wailing. Not as painful as Suss, but ballads like this bore me rigid.

One of the better songs from this year’s Këngës, and heaps of potential. The song will need to be completely rearranged (and 40 seconds removed) but we know what masters the Albanians are at that so I’m expecting to add a couple of points on to my score by March.
