EUROVISION 2014 - COPENHAGEN - DENMARK

SECHUK JURY 2014 - THE JURY REVIEW FOR AUSTRIA

2 Juries - one UK and one International, will comment on and rate the songs of ESC 2014 as they are chosen.

The idea is that the songs will be voted on first impresssions, as most TV viewers will do in May.

The main difference of course is that in May they will be subject to the same production standards and opportunties, something that differs at National Selection stage.

Way too theatrical for my liking. I wasn't expecting much from Austria this year as Conchita Wurst just doesn't do it for me as an artist, but this was still a disappointment. The staging on the other hand may end up being extravagant this year for Austria !

I like this a lot, Conchita is perfect for this song. The song itself is really good powerballad and I think this might do good in Copenhagen .

Good entry good vocals. Its not outstanding though. The only thing that might help to qualify is the look of the singer what is memorable. That is not bad or good it just will stand out.I don't know how will go with the public. If it enters to the final it will end in the bottom 6

Conchita goes Bond? Whoever thought that Austria would send a novelty song to Copenhagen  will be surprised by this very credible entry. If Conchita sings this well and peoples minds are open and hear the message in this very beautiful and dramatic ballad, this could give them their best result in a long time. I am really looking forward to seeing how this is staged. Love it!

I dislike the woman with the beard thats why even if the song was good again it will be in my least favorites. An annoying efford to immitate James Bond movie themes

I decide to listen this song with my eyes closed, since some will not vote it just because it's Conchita, and other will vote just because the same. The song has excellent instrumentation, nice lyrics and a great vocal performance and deserve final as this is a song contest.

I am really not sure how Europe will respond to Conchita but the song will either completely flop or it will win the whole thing. Personally I like it and hope it does well.

Wow! Not many songs this year have given me goosebumps, and Conchita delivers those in spades! Great lyrics too - I'm half expecting a Bond film in the future to be named "Rise like a Phoenix," the song is more than suited to it.

Conchita really sings well and song is nice, I don’t see it possible to win or enter top10 unfortunately, but because of prejudice in many countries. The Bond theme like sound makes it timeless.

A very good and powerful entry, I like it. Conchita Wurst has a real good voice. I’m afraid some viewers will not understand Conchita but really hope she will get a great result!

WOW ! My taste of music ! Do I need to say more ???

Let the sky fall ... When it crumbles ... A very Bond(ish) entry, a pander drama song, baroque enough; a powerful voice and that touch of glamour many of us are probably looking for. But that's the point: is there something really special in this song? I don't feel like listening to a "miracle song", honestly. Much ado for ...

The title is better than the song. It is a powerful ballad but for some reason it is not sung the way I thought from when Ijust saw the title. maybe in Copenhagen they will do a better visual presentation of the song, so you could feel is is rising out of the phoenix. This should get Austria into the final.

It's not quite "Skyfall", but this song gives plenty of James Bond-level drama. I applaud Austria for not going with a direct drag cliché, but bringing it up subtly with the lyrics. Strong vocals...looking forward to hearing this live.

As camp as Shirley Bassey singing the James Bond theme with hints of a Robbie Williams number, if people can see past a man with a beard in a frock this is a great song with a real chance.

Is Conchita too much for Eurovision? I think this may bomb badly but it's a good ballad and ticks all the boxes. I hope to be proved wrong

Now this is a surprise! Influenced by James Bond and Shirley Bassey this is a rather classy number, and a brave choice when most people were expecting a camp disco stomper from Conchita. Her issue lies with whether the Easter European countries will accept a bearded man in a dress. Judging from some of the YouTube comments I have seen, I am not so sure. I think it deserves to qualify though, but I expect it will do a Krista Siegfrids and bomb in the final, undeservedly

This is all a tad overwrought and in any other year and by any other singer it wouldn’t make it out of the semis. If it does make the finals it will be on the back of a beard. It’s overtly stylistic of something from a fake dramatic scene in a cut price musical. Not the worst but certainly not the best.

Well this one came as a surprise! Amongst the endless dull ballads on offer this year, Ms Wurst offers something a little better. It's Bond-esque in parts and luxuriates in a searing string accompaniment. Whether viewers will find Conchita's appearance off-putting is another matter. Nice song though.

Giving Conchita a bold, sweeping power-ballad and allowing her to display the full, impressive range of her vocal talents was a stroke of genius.  I admire her stance on challenging conformity and "normality", and am saddened by those individuals who chose to pigeon-hole her as some kind of "freak-show", especially considering that many of those who chose to cast aspersions will also have dealt with similar judgements on their own identities.  Brava Ms Wurst!

Loving this! A well-constructed, dramatic song with a very strong melody. Really hoping this does well.

My guilty pleasure. Yes, it might be a rejected Bond theme song but it’s a near miss. Well written, excellently orchestrated, and his voice suits the tone. I hope they do a Bond style theme performance. It needs to be classy and big!

For me, this is a very ordinary song from an extrordinary performer. I expected something to wow me, to test musical boundaries. Instead I am left with a bloke in a frock singing a wannabe Bond song. Its pleasant but sounds dated. Disappointing and I can't see this in the final. I wish them well and my advice for more points - keep the frock but buy a razor. Oh and Valentina wins the Bond battle...

Hmm this is James Bond-esque and Conchita gives a first class am-dram/arm-waving performance, but how about the live vocals?  It's good yes but I felt like it never got out of second gear and the video is perhaps a tad too OTT?  Still, as ballads go it is good.

So disappointing. Thought it was going to turn into a thumping disco number, but it just kind of turned into a bland James Bond theme tune reject. And we really didn't need another ballad! Not unpleasant, but very uninspired.

This is going to be interesting! Great voice, I like the song but will be image of the act affect the votes? Hopefully not – but you never know. A possible top 5?

Austria has saved the Wurst - but not the worst - until nearly last, and it was worth the wait.  Conchita delivers a great, big, sweeping Bassey-style ballad, and if she can pull off the live performance, Austria is safely back in the finals after three years.

Oh, what a shame. I was so hoping for another "That's What I Am". This certainly has style, and Conchita has a lovely voice, but this Bond-style song is not good enough to guarantee qualification to the final. I so wanted to see those Russians squirm. This gets bonus points because Conchita is so fantastic.
