EUROVISION 2014 - COPENHAGEN - DENMARK

SECHUK JURY 2014 - THE JURY REVIEW FOR FINLAND

2 Juries - one UK and one International, will comment on and rate the songs of ESC 2014 as they are chosen.

The idea is that the songs will be voted on first impresssions, as most TV viewers will do in May.

The main difference of course is that in May they will be subject to the same production standards and opportunties, something that differs at National Selection stage.

I'm very happy with Switzerland 's choice on this one! It's very different, captivating, and charismatic. I can sense the energy on stage, and I have no doubts that it will translate well on stage in Copenhagen as well! I just have this strange wish that the song was in French...

Just annoying!

Now this song is just again a week try by the swiss public. So I think this song will not even be close to qualify. The vocals are bad, the english language doesn't suit the soloist.

Douwe

This shares obvious similarities to Alexander Rybak's performance but then much weaker and with an Irish, pop, folk feel to it. An annoying whistle too. This is a song that people will either love or hate with few in between. He clearly enjoys himself on stage and it is undeniably catchy but I doubt the Swiss flag will be seen on the scoreboard come Saturday night.

I love everything on this song except from the singer voice.  Even on the studio version his voice is awful and that shows that nothing can safe this song from staying in the Semi's

I cannot say that I don't like the swiss music, but usually I dislike their choises for Eurovision. This song is too simple and I cannot imagine this song without soul in the final in Copenhaguen

Lets start with the positives, I liked the bit where he played the Violin, the trouble is that I hated every thing else! He can't sing and he looks possessed when he whistles! Scarey!!

I quite enjoy this entry! Seems like a great song to drive along to, or to have playing during a TV advertisement... I am a bit worried as to how they'll handle performing in an arena though - the live national final performace was really sketchy - particularly with the vocals. 3.5 months of rehearsing will hopefully tighten things up. One of the better songs selected so far.

This guy knows how to keep the attention of the audience and has a nice catchy song. However, solid tune, great instrumentation, and the whistling is a great way to hook people into the song. I think he has some quirky charm, too. Excellent tune. Quirky, love the fiddle playing on about 2 minutes.

Yes, that is a fresh and original entry from the Swiss but vocals are bad. I like the violin solo part. Having say that, I think Switzerland will struggle to qualify for the Final.

It seems to be a new trend this year .....country influences . I like the song from Switzerland and I love the mandolin !

Whistling ... this song did not impress me much, I liked Christian Tschanz more. A bit original, it follows the marks of Anna Rossinelli with its simple and addressed style and it could work for the Final. But it's just another listen-to-it-and-forget-it song.

A song that could become something like Hungary 2013. It is different and could turn out very catchy by the time we get to Copenhagen . It is not instantly a song for the final but who knows, with some effort into the staging of the song in May, we could see Switzerland in the final.

Cute, charming, and the whistle adds a nice hook, but Sebalter's English could use some major polish. We're talking "sweem against the strim"-levels, here. Liking the addition of the fiddle, but it's still a borderline qualifier for me without a bit of tightening-up.

2013 was the year of the drum, will 2014 be the whistling year? I sure hope not. This is annoyingly catchy but somewhat chaotic and difficult to decipher.

This is an unusual one. Really surprised it won the final. I can't see it getting many votes but the chorus is quite catchy even If the English is a bit dodgy.

This is a pretty undescript and inoffensive song but it’s all rather forgettable. The best part is the instrumental in the middle. I’m really not sure if this would get enough votes to qualify, as most people will quite like it, but not many would pick up the phone to vote for it. At the moment, a borderline qualifier.

I find it very difficult to review this as it actually makes me feel physically ill. It’s like a pastiche of every recent Eurovision cliché by some not funny comedian. I can’t believe Eurovision has sunken so low and it is things like this that give the contest a bad name amongst some people.

Well at least it's preferable to Switzerland 's terrible 2013 entry! However, the 2014 offering is no Eurovision classic. The whistling, startling facial expressions and garbled English are all off-putting. There is the makings of a tune in there somewhere but the production lacks 'oomph'. There's still time for improvement but as it stands, this one feels like it will not be escaping from semi-final land.

I like the whistling and he's easy on the eye! It's a bit quirky and I doubt it'll qualify, but I still quite like it

6

Dean

Ok. I guess. Like a number of songs this year, there's a very 'average' feel to this. Perfectly harmless, but nothing that grabs me.

5

Eddie

Pleasant but his voice is annoying and I don't know why. I like the folk middle 8 but the rest of the song is nothing special. It also feels like he is signing at a different beat to the song - very weird!

Gary

Swiss Country music? This doesn’t sound very 2014 to me and the whistling belongs in the 1950s. Not the kind of song I want to see in Eurovision. I was disappointed enough with the 2013 winner, please let that disappointment stop here.

Matt

The tune is ok but everything else to my ears at any rate is dire.  I don't know about being a 'hunter of stars', it'll be a hunter of points! Toilet break time.

2

Nico

Well it's not unpleasant, but there's nothing much to like either. I just can't imagine why I would really want to sit through it again.

I really dislike whistling and this isn't really doing much for me. Cute singer though. If there was no whistling this would be ok...

5

Sally-Ann

This country has entered some cracking songs which have failed to qualify.  This irritating Hillybilly number will easily maintain the tradition of a Swiss-less final.

4

Tristán

Nice whistling but that's about it. I don't really get this song. It's pleasant enough but I was rooting for 3 for All. He really needs to practise banging that drum in time with the music too.
