EUROVISION 2014 - COPENHAGEN - DENMARK

SECHUK JURY 2014 - THE JURY REVIEW FOR FINLAND

2 Juries - one UK and one International, will comment on and rate the songs of ESC 2014 as they are chosen.

The idea is that the songs will be voted on first impresssions, as most TV viewers will do in May.

The main difference of course is that in May they will be subject to the same production standards and opportunties, something that differs at National Selection stage.

Definitely a good song and performance for its genre! This is just a very middle-of-the-road type of act. There is no question that is a very good song, but it just doesn't go beyond the word "good." I can feel this one potentially growing on me.

Just an average indiesong, not good nor bad.

Benedek

So another good song but with vocals sometime shaky. Still I think this song will stand out and will go to the final easily.

Douwe

This is fresh and pay particular attention to the lyrics. Likely to bring Finland a respectable result in the final but before that can happen the lead singers vocals need tightening up a lot as during the live performance he sounded very pitchy and shrieky towards the end of the song. Sort this out though and this will definitely be an improvement on Krista's score in Malmö.

Not my cup of tea but at the same time i believe is not a bad song.  On the border of passing to the Final.  I really dont understand why Finland with an exceptional music industry why they never send to Eurovision something really new and cool.

This song is "too swiss" (something among Lovebugs and Sinplus) but well I like it.

The quality of the song is perfect, I hope they can give a good show in their semifinal because this song deserves good fortune.

Mark

Well I feel that Finland should have chosen 'something better'. This was just awful the lead singer didn't really hit any notes the whole way through.

Along with 'Marry Me', I think this is one of the best entries that Finland have sent in recent years. Very catchy song, nice hook, good looking group - I can see this qualifying for the final easily. I really hope they don't go overboard with the pyro though as the UMK final had too much going on. Have faith in the song boys - it's a great one.

Good choice, Softengine is a good band and I believe that the guys will have an awesome show in May. I mostly like the lead singers voice but I don't think that's a bad song but is a bit similar to Sinplus - a style which rarely do well in Eurovision. I doubt this will do any good either…

Oh yes I like this one. An energetic pop rock song, they all seem to enjoy on stage and they can sing. But, I do not see it as a potential winning entry.

finally something better ....(hahahaa ) The boys are doing quite well, and the song is not the worst , so maybe maybe we have a chance this year to go to the final and not ending as nr 24 or 25 , a little bit better than that I hope, maybe 10 - 15 .....

"Screaming rock" for Suomi, but good enough. A bit predictable in its way ŕ la Franz Ferdinand; it might work and it is bound to grow on a lot of people, but I won't go crazy for them anyway.

7

Roy

Yes they could have picked something better but it is not too bad. The lead singer is quite attractive and should gain attention. With a group name such as SOFT ENGINE, I knew it would not be hard rock. Finland has had worst songs and I think this song could grow by the time we get to Copenhagen . The song is not so instant for publicity as last year's "marry me".

Samantha

I really enjoy this one...energetic, with a great vocal hook. That high note in the chorus could easily go astray, so the lead singer should probably stick to honey-lemon tea for a while, but this song gets my heart beating just a tick faster, which is my seal of approval.

Whilst I would have loved it to have been a Finnish language song this probably has a wider appeal. Definitely shades of 'A Friend in London ' and possibly a little Sinplus but with better pronunciation...

This just isn't my type of song. Not a bad chorus but the end is just a racket and the live performance is dismal. Thought the whole final was poor. Can't see this in the final.

Yet another “safe” song, it seems that a lot of the songs this year are treading the same ground. This is performed well but it reminds me of Sinplus from a few years ago, and we know what happened there. It’s performed well enough and should do well from the juries but I can’t see it in the higher echelons of the table on Saturday night, if it even gets that far.

A patchwork of song styles put together by someone who can’t work the sewing machine. It’s all over the place and is so confusing there is nothing to hang onto for a voter.  They need to work on their look also and try to pull some coherence together.

Full marks to the Finns for selecting something which at least has a contemporary feel. Those big anthemic 'whoah-ho' moments always go down well in a stadium environment. The melody is basic yet memorable and the only real negative at the moment is the lead singer's failure to engage with the camera. Finland in the final? I think so!

David E

This sounds a lot like Coldplay and is very radio-friendly. Well performed. I think this will qualify and do well in the final.

8

Dean

Contemporary and well performed, but not really my thing. I'm longing for a stronger melody.

6

Eddie

A nice sound and decent performance - very Britpop in sound. However, it does nothing for me. It's a good radio song but that's all.

5

Gary

Good one Finland ! This would fit nicely in European charts and the Coldplay-style whoah-wo ‘s kick in just at the right time. The shouting towards the end needs another think though. There’s a making of a classic here I think – more power needed though.

8

Matt

I like this!  Ok, so it's one of the actors from Hollyoaks singing and he does sound a little strained in places, but it got the old foot tapping.  Polish it up and it will be 'something better' :)

7

Nico

Me thinks the Finns have taken a leaf out out of the Estonian song book here and good for them. Yep, everyone's gonna say Coldplay, but so what. Hope it makes it to the final (and he mangages to keep his voice that long.)

Not the sort of thing I usually go for, but I like this! Nice build, should see them qualify with ease.

A return to rock for Finland and touches of Coldplay and Bon Jovi make up this competent number.  Will struggle to make it through the semi final, though

I was such a fan of MIAU anything other than MIAU would have been a disappointment. This is very average and I cannot see what people see in it. Not my thing really. I can see it doing quite well at the contest, sadly
