EUROVISION 2014 - COPENHAGEN - DENMARK

SECHUK JURY 2014 - THE JURY REVIEW FOR FRANCE

2 Juries - one UK and one International, will comment on and rate the songs of ESC 2014 as they are chosen.

The idea is that the songs will be voted on first impresssions, as most TV viewers will do in May.

The main difference of course is that in May they will be subject to the same production standards and opportunties, something that differs at National Selection stage.

This will be my guilty pleasure this year! I don't know how popular this one will be with a majority of the crowd, but for some reason I can't stop myself from listening to it. It's so catchy and in an odd way very contemporary. It's very refreshing compared to some of the songs we've seen! I hope this translates well to others too, I think it would be fun to watch in Denmark

A nice song. But the song is shameless since it sound nearly exactly as Papaoutai with Stromae.

This is once again a crap song from France. No chance at all with this song to have a good result. This song reminds me to 2008 when Ireland was desperate.

As much as I love a typical French ballad, this is a fun and dynamic song and not the joke entry we might think it is. There is some social commentary too. It tells the story of a man who is very rich and successful but who deeply yearns to have a moustache, or no matter how many luxuries we have in life there is always that desire for something more. No last place for France in Copenhagen but we won't be in Paris next year either.

Funky but not very interesting and between the Cheesecake the Bake Cake the Icelandic song and the Moustache i dont know what will stand out. I think noone....

A flashback to 1992, Jordi Dur dur d'etre bebe, this year it seems that the name of the game let's choose the wrong song, and yes France joined the party.

This song has absolutely nothing, but it will be in the final.

Sorry France , despite you choosing the best song on offer to you, this is a disappointing year. I normally rely on France for something quirky (in a good way) but this is just average hence the score

I'd normally get into this, but mentally I'm finding it very hard to believe this isn't a blatant, direct rip-off from Stromae's 'Papaoutai'. Shame on France 3 for not seeing the similarity between 'Moustache' and the biggest Francophone hit of 2013. If the lack of votes during the final doesn't kill this song, then a lawsuit from a certain Belgian surely will.

I don't know what to think about this choice. It's catchy,  a really fun song, It's different, but not bad at all. Could do fairly well with the public during the final, to party and I think this song lends well to that. It's different, but not bad at all.

At least it's an original song, something different for sure and I also think I Do like it. It gives you a smile but I do not think France will do much better than last year I'm afraid.

OMG! Where do they find these artists (?) Now I know that France doesn´t wanna win this game.Again a country that sends something without music & melody. maybe I´m too old, but this is just NOTHING !

It's hard now to find the clear difference between originality and banality. Undoubtedly a powerful rhythm, that beats clearly in the head and a refrain that involves. Maybe a Summer hit, maybe a "one hit wonder". A pleasant moment, without unnecessary complications. Surely, Joanna's song is very classy and we do expected a brilliant ballad from la douce France like that. France was often criminally underrated in Eurovision; we can reward an attempt of liking, at least.

Anything would have been better than their 2013 entry. So it is another one word song title! And another song that scream for promotion. It is no secret that I do not like the French language but this song is a lot of fun, and aimed at a totally different audience French entries normally are. I think it will do well in Copenhagen .

On the surface, this gets me smiling and dancing around my apartment (don't judge me, you probably are, too!).  Beyond the top layer, the song's lyrics are an interesting commentary on greed and gratification, an interesting counterpoint to the song's melody. Summer hit potential!

Very French. Different. Bit of a novelty but pending Germany 's choice I see this ending up at the bottom of the big 5 and pretty near to the bottom of the table.

This isn't too bad even though its a bit of a nonsense song. Quite catchy and a good backing track. It reminds me of something from the 90's or one of those infuriating holiday songs. What I like about France is they don't stick to any particular Euro formula. I keep playing this which is worrying.

This is an interesting one. It both looks and sounds a bit messy but it kinda works. I do quite like it, however I’m just not sure that will translate to many votes for them. It’s a very hard one to predict. I do know however, it will be a huge hit on the dancefloor in EuroClub, and I am sure they will have fun in Copenhagen !

I don’t get this. Is it supposed to be funny or even fun? I just find it somewhat irritating. I hope they dispose of the idiotic costumes for Copenhagen . This could go either way but I fear it may bomb.

I suppose if you like Stromae, you'll like this. Every contest needs a bit of fun and this song isn't taking itself too seriously. Not a winner but far from being the worst on offer this year.

6

David E

I like the fun and quirky nature of Moustache. Possibly won't score too well but it's some badly needed fun in a weak year.

7

Dean

What a great song.  Fresh, instant and fun.  My favourite French entry since 2002.  Magnifique!

9

Eddie

Black eyed peas, French style. Good on the French for choosing something modern and cool sounding. For me, the song is well produced and has a good singalong chorus. But it doesn't go anywhere and the visual is average. I would mark higher if in English as I think it would more accessible

This lot remind me of Ping Pong from Israel in 2001 and look what happened to them. I’m at a loss to find something positive to say, but I think we can all see that this will be between 21 and 26 on the night…

Hmm what can I say about this one?  I could go on about this but perhaps it can be sumed up in 1 word: rubbish.  Sorry!  Another contender for loo break.  I want a chanson that's a 'oui' not a 'wee'.

1

Nico

I can't help but really enjoy this. I like the lyrics too about always wanting something different ... and this is surely different. I hope it does well for France .

8

Paul J

I am not sure whether I like this or not. Why don't they just send Natasha St Pier again? A bit of a mess all round, I don't think France really even care any more

5

Sally-Ann

A great track on record and I was delighted it won, but what a terrible mess on stage in every respect.  A sad indictment from a nation that usually, if nothing else, provides a touch of class.

4

Tristán

Oui! France chose well, against all my expectations. I was so sure that boring boyband would end up winning, I'd almost given up hope for France . "Moustache" is not a great song, though it does remind me of some of Manu Chao's more lighthearted numbers. A bit of fun.
