EUROVISION 2014 - COPENHAGEN - DENMARK

SECHUK JURY 2014 - THE JURY REVIEW FOR LATVIA

2 Juries - one UK and one International, will comment on and rate the songs of ESC 2014 as they are chosen.

The idea is that the songs will be voted on first impresssions, as most TV viewers will do in May.

The main difference of course is that in May they will be subject to the same production standards and opportunties, something that differs at National Selection stage.

Oh no... more cakes... and even more baking. This is something I would expect to hear on Barney and Friends. It almost sounds like a repulsive children's anthem.

Quite nice and catchy song, will be interesting to see how this will do in Copenhagen !

This song is better than previous years but still is not a qualifier. It lacks something. It is just an ok song nothing special.

In a year in which we have a 'Cheesecake' representing Belarus  we now have a 'Cake To Bake' from Latvia . Plenty of fun, sweet, hippyfied and undeniably catchy, annoyingly so. This could either score a lot of points like Malta did last year if people fall for their charms or else miss the final completely. I'm siding more with them not being there come Saturday night.

It will be nice if the two cake songs are performed one after the other so to be like EBU gave them a concept. The performers are good but the song will not stand out.

For second year in a row, Latvia chooses in a very strange way. I don't find any charm in the song, the lyrics, the outfit, or the voice of the singers. There were better songs infront of your nose, and you choose a very boring musical piece

Is this the twilight zone or is almost every song this year a comedy song! Lots of people say the UK don’t take eurovision seriously but songs like this are such a joke. It is getting boring!!

The cheesiness of the entry aside (and if you've seen my Belarussian review, I do love my cheese!) this is actually a very catchy song! Vocals could do with a bit of work, but every viewer who sees this will surely end up with a smile on their face. I expected Latvia to choose something that wasn't mainstream, and this year they didn't disappoint. Not bad at all.

This was a simple song, a bit weird, but not so bad. It sounds much better than many of the songs you hear on the radio today. Sweet, happy, catchy and with a summer feeling to it.Their happiness makes me silly happy.

A big NO LIKE for me. A pity really, because I think the main singer has a good voice but the song is really bad, and those lyrics ??? I would be very surprise if it qualify for the final really.

Sorry, I´m not so good of baking cakes, but I can do better than this. Melody made in kindergarten, easy , a little funny , but no....

This culinary ESC edition is going on: from (a) Cheesecake to a Cake to Bake. Good 60's sounds, but those won't help the whole song anyway. A nice idea, but the result is a bit weak. It seems that something is missed, maybe the Final.

The title is so original and screams to be promoted. The lead singer has a voice like the lead singer of Brainstorm, that very easy on the ear sound. Although the song is not a master piece, it is quite a lot of fun. Hope there will be nice cake in Copenhagen .

I'll admit it. I love this. Sometimes I can take off my editorial hat and simply let a song make me smile. This isn't pretentious, fussy, or over-produced. It's a bunch of friends jamming about how they can't bake. It's organic, carefree, and simply fun. Will it qualify? Might be tough. Will it make people giggle? I'd bet so!

Whoever said all ESC songs sound the same is tone deaf. Chosen on the same night as 'Running', 'Cake to Bake' couldn't be more different. An instant, happy go lucky song with a Maltese feel that topped the pile at a Latvian final that gave the Maltese final a run for its money in length and advert breaks! Could get very annoying though after a couple of plays.

Latvia is my most unfavourite Eurovision country and yet again they have proved me right. What a load of rubbish

I really despair with Latvia , I really do. Year after year they send terrible after terrible entry and this is no different. I really cannot fathom who would vote for this at all, and I think yet ANOTHER last place in the semi final is in their sights. Perhaps one year they will send something I like, but I’ll have to wait until 2015 to find out. Still it’s not the WORST song this year, but not far off it!

I don’t like cute songs and this isn’t even particularly that. It’s like a child’s nursery rhyme and will become annoying after the third listen. But voters only hear them one so maybe it will pick up some votes on the night, but I hope not.

This is an oddity. The vocal is a little weak and while the melody is undeniably catchy, the whole thing comes across like a song knocked up by a bunch of semi-stoned post-graduate students. A happy, children’s singalong at best.

Yaaaay!  I absolutely LOVE this to bits!  It’s so simple and catchy, with intelligently written and amusing lyrics.  I just can’t stop singing it and that hook is gonna grab votes. Maybe no a winner in Copenhagen , but a winner in my book.

Ok, this is relatively catchy and I think there’s some sort of message in here, but ‘Cake to Bake’? Really? Probably a grower though….

Eddie

A dated song but I like the melody and sentiment. The performance is messy - looks like a newly formed teenage church band who have only rehearsed once. Better than last year, but still not a winner!

Gary

This feels like it belongs in Junior Eurovision, although the JESC songs tend to sound more grown up than this. It’s not for me and it’s not really for ESC in the 21st Century (maybe 1981?). Having said that, it got inside my head today and I couldn’t remove it! They are in need of a make-over and some choreography - or at least joined up movement in some way.

Sorry but this probably means well and is a jolly number but that doesn't stop it from being awful.  The lead singer even gives me hope of representing my country one day.  Struggled to listen to the end and needs more time in the oven.

What's with the cakes this year? Nothing sweet about this. No doubt this is "fun" to someone, but I'd happily leave this cake out in the rain (with Lorraine .)

What a ridiculous song yet what an amusing and catchy one. Makes me want to bake a cake! Duet with Belarus ? Quirky is good when it's done well, this is done well!

Another song with a baking theme, this one really takes the biscuit.  Stunningly bad.

For once, my favourite song from the semis goes on to win. Been singing "Cake to Bake" since I first heard it in December. This song is so sweet and simple, I can see it winning the ESC . Though I've said that about Latvian songs before, haven't I, Aisha?
