EUROVISION 2014 - COPENHAGEN - DENMARK

SECHUK JURY 2014 - THE JURY REVIEW FOR the NETHERLANDS

2 Juries - one UK and one International, will comment on and rate the songs of ESC 2014 as they are chosen.

The idea is that the songs will be voted on first impresssions, as most TV viewers will do in May.

The main difference of course is that in May they will be subject to the same production standards and opportunties, something that differs at National Selection stage.

Very acoustic and very mellow, but it lacks an enticing chorus. At its current state, this is actually no more than a decent coffee shop performance, which is a shame because I feel like there was potential.

Too boring for my taste. So nothing special.

Its a nice song.It has a country feeling.I don't know how will  react Europe for a country style music but its definitely a good song.I hope Netherlands will qualify again.

Two fantastic voices for the Netherlands this year performing a country song that unfortunately does not showcase their considerable talents. This is pleasant and inoffensive but meanders along rather than grabbing you and I worry that this will not be enough to make people vote for it. Perhaps a song that the juries will appreciate more than the wider public? It is different but only with a favourable draw, near the end after an uptempo  pop song can we expect to see this on the Saturday.

The studio version is ok for hearing it in long car drivings. I have the feelind that alive will be very boring.

Ilse DeLange is for me a extrange case of a singer voice that I like, however her musical style is not something that I enjoy. This song reminds me something among Every breath you take and I won't let you lonely. I will get used to it and even like it

Move over Sweden and the UK I have a new favourite Absolutely love this song. It may not win but I will be out buying a common Linnets CD ASAP

I find the entry quite pleasing to listen to, but it's something I'd expect to listen to in a Hipster Cafe on Open-Mic night. In an arena with 10,000+ Eurofans I can easily see it being totally overwhelmed by the environment. A good effort, none the less.

Nice country song. I like their voices together, fit perfectly and I expect a spectacular stage show with a intimate and dark atmosphere, but  It's forgettable.

A nice song, I like it, nice voices. But, I think it is too melancholic and slow for Eurovision and I'm afraid it will bore the viewers at home. A nice song, I like it, nice voices. But, I think it is too melancholic and slow for Eurovision and I'm afraid it will bore the viewers at home.

Fantastic song. Deluxe melodies and excellent arrangements. Great country sounds in a perfect "on-the-road" style. You don't have to feel sleepy ... just relax and enjoy it. They deserve the Final.

The storm is defnitately over - the song is even too calm for my taste. There are such great Dutch songs around, but this is so typical American, I cannot see Europe going for it in a big way. Won't create a storm in Copenhagen .

Elegant, classy, understated, well-performed.  I hope this doesn't fly under the radar, because I think this is the Netherland's best entry in years.

This continues to intrigue. Mellow country rhythm which really appeals to me but I'm not sure it has enough instant appeal to repeat the success of Birds. Fingers crossed they cause a storm!

How disappointing. I thought it was going to be so much better. It just doesn't get anywhere. can't see this qualifying. Time to put the kettle on.

The Dutch are trying to make it two in a row with this duo after they FINALLY qualified with Anouk last year. This is a pleasant song and their voices blend very well together. The problem is that it doesn’t really stand out from the crowd on the first listen. I expect this will be quite a grower though, but to do well with the televotes the song needs to be more instant. The juries will love it though, so it could go either way.

This is rather cloying and sticky for me. Just sits about trying to sound clever without really doing anything. The juries will probably love it but it’s just an insipid bit of nothing.  Sounds as though it took 10 minutes to write in between the writers being so so switched on and super cool.

Not sure about this. The backbeat seems to be stolen from Police's 'Every breath you take'. Very pleasant and full marks to the Dutch for trying something different but it could get overlooked by televoters.

I've been listening to quite a lot of country over the past year, so this really floats my boat.  For me this is more instant than Birds.  I can see it doing very well indeed!

This is a lovely little song, but I fear it may be a bit too subtle to register.  It also has a strong American feel, which is not an especially successful genre at Eurovision. But, for me, this is better than Anouk's song from last year.

7

Eddie

Bring back Anouk. This is pleasant and that is it. The voices sound nice - the song sounds like a rejected album track by lady antebellum. It's not awful but they could have done so much better.

Gary

Another credible entry from the Dutch. This song has a lovely feel to it and the voices work well together. It’s solid, nice and cute with it. However that doesn’t make a Eurovision winner and I think they may struggle to qualify with this, unless country music fans of Europe are tuned in…. It could sound dull on first hearing.

7

Matt

It certainly is the calm before the storm... so laid back you could fall over.  Nice, gentle, harmless and not a winner.  It meanders like a stream to the end but it's nice to have a quality song in here all the same.  But will it get lost?

7

Nico

There are those who will complain this is boring, but I think this is simple and beautiful. Of course it won't win, but it's one of the few songs from this year I will listen to long after the contest. The good thing about Eurovision is a big enough niche following just might squeeze it into the final...

Not really keen on country songs and especially not dull ones like this! What a shame after their recent entries… I can’t see this qualifying, even in such a weak field.

4

Sally-Ann

The sort of song you hear being played by the live band down the pub when you're a bit drunk and not really listening.  But I like it - it's very different to the rest of the field, with some fine vocal subtleties.

Tristán

Some songs are dreamy; some just want to send you to sleep. This sadly is one of the latter. It just doesn't do it for me. The background strumming is nice, though, even though it is completely lifted from "Every Breath you Take".
