EUROVISION 2014 - COPENHAGEN - DENMARK

SECHUK JURY 2014 - THE JURY REVIEW FOR NORWAY

2 Juries - one UK and one International, will comment on and rate the songs of ESC 2014 as they are chosen.

The idea is that the songs will be voted on first impresssions, as most TV viewers will do in May.

The main difference of course is that in May they will be subject to the same production standards and opportunties, something that differs at National Selection stage.

A piece of my heart broke when I found out that Linnea didn't win. Her charismatic presence and song would have been a strong contender for a win. But, this isn't bad! With a little work on the vocals and staging, it could definitely come together! A tad bit depressing though...

Really, really good.

Well Norway is a contender to the top 5.It is a very good song, very well build and great singer. It will easy go to the final.

Douwe

Norway’s song bears a resemblance to the runner-up in the Finnish UMK last year (Mikael Saari - 'We Should Be Through') Unlike Mikael, Carl has some vocal issues during the performance of 'Silent Storm'. This is a beautiful, haunting Scandinavian ballad and if the juries and televoters are looking for an emotive song and an atypical performer this will go very high on the scoreboard.

Elias

Nice song but too slow. Carl's performance is not so confident. It will be in the final but far from Top 10.

8

José

Deep and perfect. Winner alert for Copenhagen . This song will be boring for those that look for funny songs; this is just a song for the soul that needs no customs, dancers or flashing lights. Linnea you were my favourite of every song in any national final you were perfect.

This is a good song, I like the way it was sung with so much emotion by a big man, but is it Eurovision? I don’t think so. Should make the final though

7

Melissa

One of the best ballads in the contest. Will certainly qualify, and should challenge for Top 5 of the leaderboard. I cannot fault this song, but his performance lacks confidence.

I think song is very beautiful and touching ballad, reminds me Folk, indie rock music style. He is good singer.

10

Paul C

It's not a bad entry but it is really missing something. I cannot see this entry winning the Eurovision, it is way too slow that it is almost boring.

Pia

zzzzzzz, I`ll take a breake, falling asleep ....

Roberto

A classy ballad. Only a simple melody, strong lyrics, a good voice and a lot of feelings. An incredibly beautiful entry, sophisticated and charming, in its simplicity; it doesn't need noises, oh-oh-ohs, repetitive melodies and so on. Excellent choice Norge.

Well before the contest, I heard that Carl will win. I liked the title, SILENT STORM, reminded me of a big favourite from 95 (Lulluby for a volcano, Russia ). But this is not the same, it is so SILENT/ SOFT , it makes me fall asleep rather than sitting up and take notice. Totally harmless but I really hope this won’t win. No matter how eager the Nordic countries are about ESC , 3 wins in a row in Scandinavia will be overkill.

Minimalistic and understated, beautifully performed by a guy who you can imagine would go home and change the oil on his car after the NF was done. Gives it a universal, relatable, "everyman" quality.

Very contemporary pop song but unlike Belgium I find it too sterile and formula. Almost guaranteed a spot in the final but there are better ballads on offer this year.

Brian

Pleasant enough but I'm not taken in by all the hype surrounding this. Can't understand a word at the beginning. For me he takes too long to get into the song

This song has seen levels of hysteria I haven’t seen since Rybak, however this time I think it’s undeserved. It’s a decent song but for me, Carl is just not a great performer. He can sing, but I don’t see any charisma. I think it will do well, but it is not the guaranteed winner that many people seem to think.

And tonight I’m going to be … Antony And The Johnsons. The only song to pick up any chatter on the web before it was chosen so that indicates something. The juries will love this and in the midst of a lacklustre year it could either do fantastically well or bomb.

David B

It has to be said, this is undeniably a pleasant song. However, that's where it ends. This just goes on and on, not amounting to much other than being nice. A definite finalist but too miserable to win. Probably.

6

David E

Very understated. The power lies in its simplicity and I think Carl will be right up there in the final shake-up. Not a runaway winner, but a potential one.

8

Dean

Superb. My favourite song of the Contest. The first time I heard this I thought it was amazing. It might be a bit too dark and introspective to win, but it's a high quality song that stands out amongst many of the other, sadly, mediocre entries on offer this year.

Eddie

I love the song! It sounds like a winner. It's such a well-crafted song. I just worry about Carl. He has the voice but the performance is missing something and I don't know what.

9

Gary

There must be something about Scandinavian sentimentality that I am missing. As with Sweden , this doesn’t come across as genuine to me. I find the vocals insipid almost weedy and the image out of line with the feel of the song. This is passing me by and vocally I’m seeing another Didrik. Sweet all the same.

Matt

A huge 'fan fave' and it is indeed classy but is also a contender for the Mary Poppins "Stay Awake" award.... it ambles along nicely and I have a feeling it will do well but a winner?  A lot will depend on the staging as it could make or break it.

7

Nico

Incongruously fragile and touching. Would not surprise me if we stayed in Scandinavia for a third year.

8

Paul J

I can recognise the quality and uniqueness of this but really don’t like his voice. It’ll do well but I’m not loving it – yet – could be a grower…

6

Sally-Ann

Reminiscent of '90s Ireland , this heart-strings, swirling ballad will live or die on its live performance, and will need the most subtle of staging for maximum effect.  A very strong contender overall.

7

Tristán

Another large man singing a ballad in a high voice, though I believe in Belgium 's Axel more than I believe in Carl. A nice enough song, good voice, but I don't expect this will do anywhere near as well as the Norwegians think it will. If it makes the final, it will probably flounder near the bottom.
