EUROVISION 2014 - COPENHAGEN - DENMARK

SECHUK JURY 2014 - THE JURY REVIEW FOR PORTUGAL

2 Juries - one UK and one International, will comment on and rate the songs of ESC 2014 as they are chosen.

The idea is that the songs will be voted on first impresssions, as most TV viewers will do in May.

The main difference of course is that in May they will be subject to the same production standards and opportunties, something that differs at National Selection stage.

I hear speculations of fraudulent voting? I actually hope that's true and that the broadcaster finds out... because this will not make it past the semi-final. It has no strength in any category and is extremely forgettable, even for an upbeat song.

Quite catchy and good song.

Now this country will have a bad result again. This song is simply crap, cheep and the singer isn't great either.I don't see this in the final at all.

Comparisons with the Portuguese entry in 2007 'Dança Comigo (vem Ser Feliz)' are inevitable as both songs have been composed by the same man. 'Quero Ser Tua' is a lambada light, happy, catchy and positive song but with very little depth. This should get people moving their bodies to the rhythm. Sabrina just missed the final in Helsinki and I fear that Suzy is heading for a similar result this year. It should also be mentioned that her vocals also need tightening up considerably.

Lack of any originality ... we can see this entry from Portugal even in the 80s. It doesn’t have anything that will make it stand out

In this polemic final the five songs were poor compared to rest of Europe . At the end of the day they send the song that can show a little modern image of Portugal to Europe . Hope someday Portugal realises tradition is important, but modernity is necessary in terms of competition.

Not the greatest singer or the best song, but I have to say it is lovely to have Portugal back. They were missed last year

When I listen to this track I feel as if I've been transported back into the 90's. It's crying out for a remix. A very mediocre effort from Portugal .

The first time I heard I thought this was an African song style and not Portuguese. Now let's hope they change completely the song, because it’s a low quality song IMO.

No way ! I was waiting too much from Portugal and this happened. It sound so cheap, staging is bad. Oh well, I'm so sad. No final for Portugal 's return to the Eurovision I'm afraid.

Quite a happy little song, the best from Portugal since 2008. A summerhit maybe.

They had two very good songs in their National Final and they chose the weakest one. Another potential Summer hit, tragically on the footsteps of Que me quiten lo bailao or Mandinga. It comes and goes, very quickly and it leaves me definitely and undoubtedly uninterested. Really nothing special for their waited comeback.

This is indeed one of the big surprises to me in 2014. It is really a good catchy song and is one of the better ones Portugal has entered in the contest. It reminded me a bit of the first Portuguese song I have heard BEM BOM. Nice they are singing in their language. Hope Portugal is greeted with a place in the final on their return.

I'm thrilled to see Portugal back in the ESC , but this is just cheap and (with the exception of that last high note) not exceptionally well-performed. Not for me!

Nice to see Portugal sends an uptempo song. Should stand out amongst a swath of ballads but still feels old fashioned. Anyone else hear The Lambada in there.

So glad to see Portugal back but a bit disappointed in what they have chosen. The backing singers need to work on their vocals and Suzy needs to be a bit stronger. If they don't buck up this won't make the final

Danny

Is it just me or does Suzy remind anyone of Kati Wolf? This is catchy, uptempo and fun, but also VERY Portuguese. I am not sure that it will translate so well around Europe , but this year’s contest is severely lacking in fun uptempo numbers, so who knows?

Dear me, this enforced jolliality never worked in Eurovision. It is the first time I’ve heard backing vocalists who are worse singers than the lead, and she’s none too hot in the vocal department. A hybrid of all the bad jolly songs we’ve ever had. At least they seem to be having fun

David B

Well, we know she can't sing live! This sounds like a ten year old's idea of a lambada with laughably weak orchestration. Still, it's a slice of silly fun in this year's ballad-heavy contest and dear old Suzy may well be Baby Doll: The Next Generation.

Pleasant little salsa-esque number. Won’t set the scoreboard alight, but it’s a badly needed up-tempo song in a dull semi, so well done them!

7

Dean

With hints of the Lambada, this is ok. Kind of jolly but it lacks something to set it apart. Borderline qualifier.

Does Portugal know it's 2014? Nice sounding but heard it all before. Singer isn't that strong. Med pop done averagely!

A promising intro turns into tinny dated euro-pop and something that Sinitta would have turned her nose up to, at that! Portugal needs to get into the 21st century in choosing their entries to ESC . A foot tapper but who would vote for it?

4

Matt

Bouncy, happy ditty but ultimately unforgettable and uninteresting.  Maybe some English might help, though starting with a "waah waah" doesn't.  Suzy is also rather flat and sounds out of breath most of the time.  Disappointing return I'm afraid.

3

Nico

With France and Spain voting in their semi Portugal are certainly in luck, but that's about as good as it gets. At least it's lively and different from everything else. I'm disappointed though.

6

Paul J

At last! Something with a beat and a bit of fun! Ok vocally it’s not strong but I can see a few people shaking their ass to this in Euroclub (not a pretty sight!)

7

Sally-Ann

The Lambada-inspired instrumentals are rather more appealing than the vocals, but this is still a fun, old school Eurovision number, and very welcome in a year of such musically downbeat competition.

Instantly memorable, this lambada-pimba style song was clearly the best thing at the FdC. Love the fact that you can actually hear the drummers. Sadly, Portuguese "fans" embarrassed their country with their petty booing when she won, with echoes of 2011. They'll soon forget their displeasure once Suzy delivers Portugal 's best result in years.
