EUROVISION 2014 - COPENHAGEN - DENMARK

SECHUK JURY 2014 - THE JURY REVIEW FOR SAN MARINO

2 Juries - one UK and one International, will comment on and rate the songs of ESC 2014 as they are chosen.

The idea is that the songs will be voted on first impresssions, as most TV viewers will do in May.

The main difference of course is that in May they will be subject to the same production standards and opportunties, something that differs at National Selection stage.

I am almost forcing myself to try and like this song. It's just very old fashioned with no dynamic factor. It would have worked in the 70s, but now, it's just bland. Sorry, but I don't think that 3rd time is the charm!

Better than The Social network song, but worse than Crisalide. Quite okey song.

Valentina doesn't have a chance to go to the final between so many ballads. It will score ok in the semi final but I don't see this going through.

Valentina is back and perhaps it will be third time lucky for her ! 'Maybe' is perhaps not as epic as last years beautiful song 'Crisalide (Vola)', but this is still a very classy ballad and her voice still sounds wonderful. The Italian version is gorgeous but perhaps she should sing it in English to appeal to a wider audience and the staging should be kept simple. Is there a place in the final for San Marino ? Please, please, please but it won't be easy ...

I'm really bored with Valentina's old fashion songs. Last year i couldnt understand what people liked in her song ... i hope this year we will not face a repeat of the Valentina delirio

Elegant and clasy, marvelousand sure for a final ...if I were talking about a country with more friends. The same that happened with Stand by and Crisalde, it's San Marino , I really like the song, but the support of Europe to this small state is as small as unfair. I will be extremelly happy for San Marino and Valentina if she make it, but .... I doubt it. This world is sometimes unfair world

I’m afraid that this song does nothing at all to make it memorable. It’s not hideous just plan boring

The score I am giving to this entry simply does not do justice to the brilliance of the musical composition. This is the most amazing song under God's sky and Valentina's voice is simply classy and amazing. Full marks.

I dont really know what to say. The song is less  catchy and without the exciting ending. I like more the Italian version, the English is less magical. Valentina is without any doubt an exceptionally talented singer.

No good, not bad, just average for me. Last year entry was much better. I would love to see San Marino in the final but unfortunately this song is too weak.

Maybe , maybe this year. Similar to last year, but a little bit happier music. I liked it last year and I like it this year :)

Her cleverness before it all. I like this song, a strong, emotional ballad. You can "see" in it some of her previous entries but it's very good in its way. Maybe it could be suitable for a movie soundtrack, maybe it won't go to the Final, but her talent is here to stay. Brava Valentina

This is a typical Ralph Siegel song and I like it alot. I however think this song is not so suitable for Valentina's voice to sing in English, and I would rather let her do it in Italian toget the best out of her voice. lets hope it is 3rd time lucky for her - Udo Jurgens won in the 60's on his 3rd attempt.

Valentina's voice and performance capabilities have never been the problem; she's just always being saddled with dated entries that don't do her justice.

Power ballad from San Marino ... didn't that fail last year? I fear it won't be third time lucky for Valentina. Perfectly reasonable song but nothing to make it stand out from the crowd. Montenegro blows it out of the water.

Oh yes, my favourite of 2014. I just love it. She must get through to the final this time but of course the voting will be skewed against them just like last year. A good ballad if a little old fashioned.

We’ve been transported back to 1978 with this very nice entry from Valentina. The problem is, San Marino are already facing an uphill struggle and I don’t think that this song is going to stand out enough to qualify. It’s a shame because I’d love Valentina to make it. Maybe if she ditched Ralph Siegel she would have a better chance.

It’s just a bit odd, and her voice is all over the place. It does sound as though there will be a big dramatic stage performance and perhaps that is what is missing here. I so want to like this and have San Marino in the final but I fear it may be three in a row for Valentina.

Valentina serves up a James Bond-lite ballad or perhaps a long-forgotten Petula Clark B-side. It's hopelessly old-fashioned and is clunky in a way that old Ralph Siegel could achieve. "Maybe this is it" Valentina warbles. I don't think she's talking about a victory.

Aww bless.  Valentina has taken the frenetic bit out and re-hashed last year's song, but I still like it.  It's far too old-school to do anything but a qualification isn't out of the question

This is like a song you'd play at the end of the evening.  Old-fashioned, there's a slightly melancholic feel to it.  On occasion it threatens to do a Crisalide and go disco, but it never does.  I hope it qualifies. Valentina deserves it.

Oh Valentina, 3rd time lucky? I was hoping for a massive song but instead we are given a reject bond theme. It's well crafted and she does have a brilliant voice but it just doesn't hit the mark.

A tad old fashioned, but a lovely feel to it. It does have an air of ‘I want to be a Bond theme’, without turning into the belting sound that this would need. It would be great to see them qualify this time, but I fear that it may be too ‘safe’ and that Herr Siegel’s ideas don’t fit too well with the 21st Century. Don’t knock a trier though – go Valentina!

I like this.  A song of echos of Euro pastimes with a hint of a James Bond wannabe song.  You could get hear the "maybe" at the end of the credits. She sounds more confident in Italiano though. Will it qualify, hmm.. you know what I will say :)

7

Nico

I will listen to this again and enjoy it, but with no urgency. It sounds like a soundtrack from the 70s movie Love Story, which gives it a certain timelessness but very not "now". I think it's time for Ralph to hang up his boots and SM to look elsewhere.

Valentina is a game old bird. I’ve liked both her previous songs and she can sing. I do like this, I have a feeling that this might just sneak through! Or is it wishful thinking? Yes it’s a James Bond rip-off, yes it’s unoriginal but somehow it works.

7

Sally-Ann

Valentina undoubtedly has a beautiful voice, and her third pairing with Siegel sees musical theatre meeting Bond theme and therefore is very different to anything else in the running. If she stands there and sings it properly without flying globes and acrobats, then this could make the final - maybe.

6

Tristán

The worst of Valentina's three attempts, so if she gets through this year it may be for sympathy reasons only. This is a very predictable song, and you can almost sing along with it when you first hear it. And then immediately forget how it goes. A shame.
