EUROVISION 2014 - COPENHAGEN - DENMARK

SECHUK JURY 2014 - THE JURY REVIEW FOR UKRAINE

2 Juries - one UK and one International, will comment on and rate the songs of ESC 2014 as they are chosen.

The idea is that the songs will be voted on first impresssions, as most TV viewers will do in May.

The main difference of course is that in May they will be subject to the same production standards and opportunties, something that differs at National Selection stage.

This is something that would have done well between 2002 and 2005. It's definitely an outdated pop song... but I do think it has potential, and Ukraine will probably work it's magic on the song before the contest!

As always Ukraine sends a very interesting song, that I think will do great in Copenhagen . But for me the song is not so good. Cause I think it is to simple. But I think that it's hard to follow up Zlata and her Gravity, which was an incredible song.

Well Ukraine has a noisy song. Its wierd, its disharmonic. It will stand out but not in a good way.For the first time Ukraine is gonna be a borderline qualifier. So my score for Ukraine is 2.

Once again the Ukraine will be represented by a female soloist and of the 20 competing songs in the national final 'Tick Tock' was the most professional and ready for Copenhagen . Light and frothy with some nice Eastern vibes it is unlikely we will be in Kiev in 2015 but make no mistake this is a qualifier.

It’s not a Top 10 song but I believe like every year Ukraine stage presentation will be amazing and grab points from that. I was generally expecting something more original

An OK song for Ukraine. The song is easy to remember, and for sure will collect a lot of votes. What Ukraine now need to work is in the show; why? Well because those lights in the back are annoying, and the choreography is in my opinon a mess.

The first song off the blocks is actually quite good this year, the question is will it be strong enough to remain popular until May. I don't think so. At least the singer has lots of time to get a few tuning issues sorted.

Melissa

'Tick Tock' should get the audience dancing in the stands, however this is crying out for a major overhaul. At this stage though it looks like a qualifier, but it's hardly groundbreaking stuff - you've heard it all before. Think late 90's female pop MTV artist. Only worse.

Good and beautiful singer. Perfect stage presentation and the tune which is quite Ruslana-style that sounds very pop song; it’s a catchy pop tune and has potential. But this song needs to be changed and there is no country more capable to revamp and improve a song.

The song is OK, Maria has a nice voice, but the song really sounds like too many other Eurovision song, it is entertaining yes, but nothing special for me. But I guess Ukraine will again score high in Denmark .

Nick-Nock NOT! Again a halfnaked model trying to sing....a melody and words made by pre-school children ....no way. But it doesn´t matter what  ( or who ) they send, Ukraine is always in the final

What about the very first entry for 2014? The same old story about a pop-dance tune that comes and goes. Nice sounds, light words. I miss you, Ani Lorak.

Another female singer, probably another big hit at Eurovision but it is not for me. Like the political situation now it seems this song describes it well, tick toc.Too explosive for my liking (but then  I have never been a fan of their entries)

This started out promising, but when the line "we belong to each other, like a sister to a brother" came out, I couldn't help but let out a good, old-fashioned "facepalm".  Ukraine is known for polishing NF winners form coal to diamonds, and there is potential here, but it might need some tweaks and refinement before I can let myself get into it.

Have to admit I wasn't impressed on first listening but after a couple of times it starts to grow. With some polishing and the usual avalanche of neighbourly votes this should make the final.

A good start to Euro 2014 for me. Like the music at the start and the tick-tick throughout the song. It's quite a bouncy song and should ensure a top 10 placing. The live performance has a few rough edges at the moment but I'm sure they will be corrected by May

Ukraine get the ball rolling with this, rather catchy pop ditty. Maria is a decent performer; she looks good on stage though the song is still a little rough around the edges. Then again, Gravity was vastly improved before it got to Malmö so I have high hopes for this one; I think it could do rather well. Don’t think it’s a winner, but Ukraine ’s qualifying record will definitely be left intact.

Many songs in the NF were different and would have made an impression at the contest; unfortunately this wasn't one of them.  A tedious boom boom generic sound that could come from anywhere and not helped by appallingly bad vocals. Its Ukraine so will do well but it's nothing great.

This has the feel of a 'work in progress'. The tune is simple & straightforward, the lyrics inane and the performance a little wanting in parts. She has nearly half a year to work on things though so it will no doubt be wonderfully bombastic come May.

What a great first entry for 2014!  Sounds current, catchy and instant.  Well performed too. Bravo Ukraine !

8

Not a bad start to the season from Ukraine . Modern and funky, this entry is sure to get 'worked up' to sound even better in May. The verse is a bit weak but the chorus is pretty decent. Another place in the Final beckons.

Eddie

I hope this gets the normal Ukraine make over before the live shows, as normal - it needs it.Modern rocky number - good voice and has presence but dancers are don't really add anything. Lyrics are a bit weird - 'We belong to each other like a sister to a brother' - enough said.

Starts with a promising intro but then falls into the trap of a predictable (now dull?) Eurovision tempo of the noughties. It will get beefed up (or changed) by May but for now it feels a bit throwaway. Bring back Alvin Stardust.

4.5

Matt

Has potential and if it remains the selected song will probably be remixed completely come Eurovision!  As it stands, like the intro and then all goes wrong...  not very memorable.

Nico

A sexy song that will no doubt benefit from a better production, both of the backing track and the stage presentation. Surefire qualifer. Not amazing but a good quality first song to start us off. Makes me optimistic.

There's a whiff of Ruslana about this one. Although unlike Ruslana, these live vocals are decidedly dodgy. The song reminds me of Armenia 2011, which isn't a good thing. Ukraine always transform their entries between the national final and Eurovision so I expect this to improve. At this early stage it's difficult to predict, but based on this performance, could it be the first time that Ukraine has failed to qualify? Extra points for the dancers though!

Tick-tock....how long until they change their entry?  This is no "Gravity" but they could do worse than keep this one.  Its typical screechy, weak Euro fodder but a makeover to beef it up will help.

Tristán

My favourite of all the Ukrainian contenders. Potentially top 10. She’ll obviously be made to change some of the lyrics (like 'We belong to each other like a sister to a brother'), but this is fun, memorable, and I will be singing it all day.
