Germany obviously loves these MOR 'Radio 2' ballads but that has been their downfall recently and Michael Schulte is unlikely to reverse that trend.  A nice sentimental song, reasonably well sung with some decent emotion but absolutely forgettable in the length of time the next Eurovision postcard takes to play.

Recent German results in the contest have been a disaster but their fortunes must surely change in 2018. Michael Schulte, incidentally the first man to represent Germany since 2012, pays a touching tribute to his father in 'YLMWA' and the performance is lovely. There are echoes of James Blunt, Adele and Ed Sheeran here.

Wow, just wow. Such a well crafted ballad, beautiful instrumentional, amazing lyrics and an engaging performer. I love it. Top 10 for me!

Simple and decorous. A nice ballad, a bit of Daniel Powter's style : sufficiently melancholic with an acceptable level of "pathos". Maybe you will like it listening to it more and more, or maybe not ... and you will find it average and ordinary.

A solid if unremarkable effort from Germany . It's all a bit 'Sheeran via Jamie Cullum', the kind of MOTR pop that shores up many a Radio 2 show. No bottom three placing for Germany this year but it would be a pity to see something as pedestrian as this at the top of the scoreboard.

I can't remember before when the big 5 songs were all out so early. Germany became the last to bring its song out. The selection brought a big variety but the winner could have been from the UK - it sounds so similar to singers I hear from there. I gather the theme of the song is touching a lot of people. This is not the kind of song I like from Germany .

Solid and emotional but very familiar sounding. Another safe entry and hard to see it standing out amongst 43... I like it but I don’t love it .. The voxx boys would have been something new and different for DE ..

Beautiful song delivered fantastically.  Now Germany is back in the game to have a very good result. This is the type of song which I’m expecting from the UK . I think the singer has a beautiful voice, he is very charismatic. Love it. I think top 5-10 is real for Germany .

Look, I’m no fan of Ed Sheeran or Adele, so to have a song that combines the musical delights of both was never going to float my boat. I get why it won, and I’m sure it’ll not be last in Lisbon but I’m sorry, I just don’t like it.

Without a doubt my favourite song so far, I love the sentiment the singers voice and the way the song builds, It has everything a winner should have.

Germany fields a very contemporary ballad this year, very much in the mould of Sam Smith.  Nothing strikingly original about it but it is a rare gem in a pretty mediocre field and suddenly elevates them to among the favourites.

7

Elena

It's like James Blunt and Adele had a music baby. Even though this is a very safe choice of a song, I can't hate on it. Very beautiful and emotional, if only the singer could learn english I think Germany will do just fine this year.

Adore this song.  Very much my thing and delivered really well.  Not out of place in the UK charts.

A sweet and emotional song, voice was good and I think it will probably get some good points from the juries.

German producers seem to believe in secret formulas, here song camps and international juries.  That has generated an entry that is, on paper, strong (if derivative).  However, it lacks the spark that makes people vote and I can’t see how the performance or staging can ever make up for that.

Germany sends this year something special and in the same way modern and interesting. From the first minute we are waiting to listen something new...and this is right. I would like to say that I like the story that Michael tells and moreover the orchestra plays in the background of the song in a perfect way. Germany is a very very strong dark horse this year just because she brings something new special and fresh.

Compare to whomever you will, but nobody invented' the great ballad.' Moving, heart rending, tear jerking. Only a heart of stone would not be touched by this song and earnest performance. Gives me goosebumps

So simple song, that doesn't touch my soul, sorry not for me.

Not a horrible song, in fact quite nice and pleasant, but I do find his singing style slightly annoying.  It's another 'slow' song but, at the same time, it does have life in it - and that's important.

8

Octavio

It's not bad at all, simple, it is so emotional and unbelievable. The song and his voice are amazing and lyrics are touching but at the same time sounds like something that was already heard 100's of times. It bores me a little bit and he needs a better staging.

After listening to this track a few times I think this is a safe song entry for Germany . Unfortunately I think this will be consumed by some of the big entries this year. Michael has released some really thoughtful material in the past and has also appeared on the German version of The Voice. Average easy listening song.

Heartfelt message that, frankly, brought tears to my eyes when I first heard it. (After you're done reading this message, go and hug your family.) I normally don't like heartstring-tuggers, but this one got under my skin a bit.

Some people are raving about this, and I kind of get it, but it’s not a song I am returning to.  That said, I absolutely don’t see Germany doing as badly as they have done recently.

6.5

Melissa

Wow, this is a gorgeous song and very relatable. I don’t even think Michael’s vocal performance is strong enough, but he delivers this song so well and with lots of emotion. Will be fighting Spain for audience tears!

TOO LATE (to make the DOUZE):

ANDREW - Good voice and average song, but I find it a little boring, and sounds familiar to something I’ve heard before, dose not stick out, it will get forgotten   5
