After a no-atmosphere national final, our black mountain friends have gone traditional for 2018. Maybe Slavko was a step too far last year. This is nice enough and it’s great that it’s not in English, but a sweet Balkan sound isn’t going to cut it in Lisbon . Will really struggle

Roberto

A typical Balkan ballad, weighty and passionate, vaguely retro. Sophisticated but not punchy enough, not immediate. You have to listen to it few times to appreciate it. However, it never seems to "take off", becoming a bit incomplete.

A very earnest and passionately delivered Balkan ballad that unfortunately makes three minutes seem like an eternity.  Vanja has a superb voice and "Inje" sounds technically proficient but its emotion is dark, its visuals non-existent and my attention drifted from actively listening to this long before the final 'Adio' flourish

2018 looks like going to be the year with more male artists than ever before. This kind of song we have heard before from Balkan nations but it is nice and pleasant and easy on the ear. I have not heard any of the other entries in Montenegro but this one sounds like a good bet to make the final.

A solid if unspectacular slab of Balkan angst from a singer who is probably much better than his song. Will a powerful vocal be another to see Montenegro in the final again though?

Vanja has a great voice and 'Inje' is a traditional Balkan ballad which fits with Montenegro 's most successful trips to Eurovision with a beautiful melody and enchanting instrumentation. That having been said it is also rather dated and does not have the same impact as their entries in 2014 and 2015.

It’s good to hear a Balkan ballad, but this is sadly no Željko Joksimović classic and I just don’t know if it can get there.  The song feels dated and lacks any kind of moment.  The performance is fair but nothing special.  In a tough semi, this will really struggle.

Without a doubt this years worst entry! Montenegro must really not want to host the show in 2019

Ooh - Vanja is bringing us Balkan angst in spades! There’s certainly a lot of power behind his voice but I fear this may just be a bit too full on to connect with the televoters across Europe . It’s old school Eurovision, but I do like it.

Very classic Montenegro , as in old fashioned and forgettable. Maybe they try to go retro, like last year’s winner, but this won't end up anywhere close to a top 3. Beautiful voice though, and the pianist gets a point all for himself.

Very ' Montenegro '.  Far too depressing and gloomy for me.

3

A nice, simple and well performed Balkanic ballad. But is this going to be enough to see Montenegro in the final? Not that sure...

Possibly my least favourite type of ESC entry - all stirring strings and impassioned homages to the Motherland.  Technically good, I have no doubts, but it bores the pants off me and will do so all the way to the final.

3

Benedek

Beautiful language with beautiful ballad, but the problem is that it will not stand out. It is much better than last year. The singer is charismatic and has a very good voice. I think it will borderline qualifier it depends if the judges will react to it.

A very simple Balkan ballad. Love the orchestration and how it grows. He has a good voice but I'm getting any emotion - just weird sideways movement. A better stage presence would improve the overall package!

Christos

Finally a real Yugoslav melody. I was so in love with the majority of the Former Yugoslavian entries and this is what it reminds me. A nice ballad, for sure I wanna listen it again without all those sound techincal problems and of course in the final studio version. I am very satisfied that Montenegro went away from the extreme proposals and he turn back to the typical Eurovision songs.

A tradition sounding song which is mournful and moody with a very nice producton.  I do like the music and he sings ok (great ending) but, for me, it doesn't go anywhere and just plods along.

4

Jose

The 3 minutes are boring, but he sings very well and I like the lyrics.

Very Balkan!  But not a patch on the likes of Zeljko.  I kept waiting for a chorus, but it never really arrived.  Uninspiring

Octavio

Forgettable. Sounds like a typical balkan ballad, nothing special compared to their past balkan ballads which we heard many times at Eurovision and not only, love this beautiful melody and vocalist, but it's a pity they went with what feels like the safe choice. This song doesn't stand out, doesn't sound as polished and grandstanding  and also the singer is a littte Boring, but it just doesn't stuck with me at all like other balkan ballads.

old fashioned and boring, this will definitely one I forget

2

Samantha

I've listened to this half a dozen times, but I can't remember how it goes. It's a nice enough Balkan Ballad, and Vanja's voice is nice, but it lacks "oomph" or staying power.

NF performance left me indifferent. New version is more Zeljko like. Still doesn't hit the heights, but at least there's now potential with staging and backing singers for something good on the ESC stage.

THE BALKAN BALLAD IS BACK! So excited to see this in the ESC line up! His voice is gorgeous, the song is pure sweetness and we know this will be presented as one classy entry on the night. He just needs to work on not moving so stiff on stage.

JUST MISSED OUT (on the DOUZE):

DANNY - You can’t have a Eurovision without a Balkan ballad! Sadly this is one of the weaker ones we have had, and I don't think it is very memorable at all. It's not bad, but I think it's pretty hopeless in this context.  5
