Here's One Opinion.... but what do I know ?! | |||

1 |
|
ISRAEL |
|
Beim Hachalomot Vered Gover |
A club sound from Israel that echoes with a solid dance rhythm and those familiar words for us euro fans : 'eretz' and 'ahava'. Strong. |
|
2 |
|
LITHUANIA |

Duok Man B'Avarija |
An 80-'s style dance track with a simple piano intro. This was one of the first ESC 2001 potential entries that I heard and it remains a favourite. |

CROATIA |

Emilia Kokic & Juci |
A new one to me and very slick too. This is the 'Crazy' (UK Second Chance 2000) of this year's Contest for me. And 'Crazy' came 2nd! Good to hear Emilia again and so far removed from 'Rock me' ! |
|
4 |
|
SWEDEN |
![]() |
Allt Som Jag Ser Barbados |
A sturdy sound from Sweden. Barbados make good pop songs and this is no exception. Builds to a good euro ending. Love it! |
|
5 |
|
NETHERLANDS |

So Much Love Ebonique |
Well, if ever a country got it wrong...! This could be devine retribution for Michelle. Gutsy, powerful and one to watch! |
|
6 |
|
LATVIA |
![]() |
Hey Boy Follow Me Marija Naumova |
Another new one for me. A big retro fun sound that you can't help but enjoy. The novelty value of this may have ensured Latvia were back in 2002. |
|
7 |
|
ICELAND |
![]() |
Aftur Heim Eyjólfur & Birgitta |
Reminds me of Denmark 99. A nice song and well sung but could do with more of a hook. |
|
8 |
|
IRELAND |
![]() |
Every Kiss Is A Lie InFocus |
A ballad from Ireland. No surprise there then and this is pleasant enough. I can't help thinking though that this sounds like it would have been in an 80's Song For Europe coming 7th! |
|
9 |
|
MALTA |
![]() |
Spellbound Ira Losco |
A hint of Mike Oldfield's 'Moonlight Shadow' here. Not really for me although I know its a popular choice. |
|
10 |
|
SLOVENIA |
![]() |
Ostani Tu Karmen Stavec |
Now this is a classy modern ballad which got the public vote in Slovenia. A strong contender and it gets the thumbs up from me too! This will go close. |
|
11 |
|
TURKEY |
![]() |
Kaderimsin Icin Karaça |
After finishing 7th in last year's SCC, Icin returns. A similar sound this year and the kind of thing Turkey are good at. Not convinced it is as strong as last year though. |
|
12 |
|
SPAIN |
![]() |
Quiero Bailar Sonia & Selena |
Along with Latvia, this is the summer party song of SCC 2001. Indeed this was on the radio in Spain more than David Civera when I was there just before Copenhagen! A foot tapper! |
|
13 |
|
BOSNIA |
![]() |
Mustafa Nikolina, Davor & Talibani |
An interesting song from Bosnia. I have always had a thing about the sound of the East so this gets a good score from me. |
|
14 |
|
GREECE |
![]() |
Agapise Me Maria-Louiza Vassilopoulou |
A haunting string intro revs up to a foot-tapping dance beat. Nice to see the modern sound of Greece is live and kicking! |
|
15 |
|
ESTONIA |
![]() |
A Little Chance Kadi Toom |
Here we have a cross between the styles of Ines and Evelin Samuel. You can't help but like the sounds of Estonia. This has a feeling of innocence and youth. |
|
16 |
|
NORWAY |
![]() |
You've Got The Motion Mocci |
Is this the first Eurovision animated logo for an entry? Have loved this song since the first time I saw their little friend on screen. Good solid modern sound. |
|
17 |
|
UK |
![]() |
Men Nanne Grönvall |
The idea of Nanne in a UK final was always strange to come to terms with. The song has the undeniable style of Kim Rew and the demonstrative quirky performance of Nanne, a true Eurovision professional! |
|
18 |
|
DENMARK |
![]() |
Hvis Du Taenker Lidt Pa Mig Anne Murillo |
Getting away from mouth organs and guitars, this has more of a Britney Spears style. Not sure it would have got the Parken shaking like Rollo & King did, but I much prefer this. |
|
19 |
|
PORTUGAL |
![]() |
Poder Voar Tribo Urbana |
A light and laid-back rock sound from Portugal and very different from their usual Eurovision fare. Takes a few listens but this is actually a very good song. |
|

|
GERMANY |

Power Of Trust Lesley, Joy & Brigitte |
How fantastic it would have been to have Joy Fleming back on stage at Eurovision after all these years. This is my tip to win Second Chance 2001. A simple classy ballad that has winner stamped all over it. Go, Joy! |
